PA 8705072 Furyk 300x198 Furyk in top formVerizon Heritage leader Jim Furyk believes he is hitting top form just at the right moment as he heads into the final day of the tournament one shot ahead of England’s Brian Davis (10/1 to win the competition outright).

The Londoner shot a flawless five-under 66 to leave him within touching distance of the world number six as Davis goes in search of his maiden PGA Tour win.

Furyk’s (33/1 to win the US open) bogey-free round of 67 was good enough to keep him in the lead heading into the final round as he picked up three birdies on the back nine to complete a fine day.

Furyk is looking for his second tour title in four starts having ended his three-year drought by winning the Transitions Championship in March.

The American believes he is starting to play some of his best golf so far this week and is keen to hang on to his place at the top of the leaderboard.

“I made some good up-and-downs, kept myself in the game and then down the stretch is probably the best I have hit it all week,” said Furyk.

While Davis will be hoping to stay on Furyk’s tail on Sunday he may have to be looking over his own shoulder with seven players a shot back on nine-under.

Fellow Englishmen Luke Donald (8/11 to win his fourth round two balls) is among those two shots behind Furyk after he also finished the third round with a 67 while two-time winner at Hilton Head Boo Weekly is also amongst those in with a shout of claiming the Verizon Heritage title.

Furyk went on to say that he felt as many as 20 players could still win the tournament.

“There were 20 of us bunched within two shots so we were all basically leading the golf tournament,” he added.
