Davis Love III (16/1 to win on golf coupon) has admitted he is lucky to still retain a share of the lead at the half-way point of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The American led after day one and now sits at the top on seven-under-par after the second round along with Ernie Els (11/4 to win on tournament coupon) and compatriots Ben Curtis and DJ Trahan.
Love III shot a 71 during a second round at Bay Hill which included six bogeys and a remarkable 12 holes in succession where he did not record a par.
South African Els hit a 69 on day two while Trahan shot 68, but is was 2003 Open champion Curtis (16/1 to win tournament on coupon) who shone with a five-under-par 67 that included five birdies in seven holes.
Love III described his round as a little erratic but he was happy to maintain a good position at the half-way point.
I made some pretty simple mistakes today that are a little more disappointing than yesterday’s mistakes, said the US star.
I made a lot of nice putts, hit a lot of good shots, and obviously made a lot of birdies.
Phil Mickelson (7/2 for the title on tournament coupon) is still in contention at Bay Hill after hitting a 67 on his second round to leave him sitting one shot of the lead.
